Bio-Me Microbiome Profiling

Technology

Precision Microbiome Profiling (PMP™)

A high-throughput microbiome analysis platform with the features required for routine clinical applications — enabling rapid, accurate and actionable analysis of the gut, skin and vaginal microbiomes.

Targeted qPCR on OpenArray®

PMP™ is a qPCR-based approach on Thermo Fisher Scientific’s OpenArray® platform. It delivers accurate and detailed information about the microbiome in a high-throughput format, readily available for interpretation and in a faster timeframe than traditional microbiome analysis approaches.

Highly parallelised qPCR enables quantitative detection of many microbes simultaneously, making it possible to analyse hundreds of samples in less than a day.

Assay design pipeline

Target selection and assay development

At the heart of our technology is the assay design pipeline, with thorough in silico and wet-lab validation.

  1. Step 1

    Target selection

Each microbial target is carefully selected for prevalence, abundance and physiological relevance.

  2. Step 2

    In silico design

Assays are designed and checked computationally for specificity.

  3. Step 3

    Wet-lab validation

Each assay is validated in the laboratory to be highly specific and true-to-target.

  4. Step 4

    Panels

Validated assays are combined into panels of highly relevant targets for reliable, reproducible profiling.

Unique biobank access

Collaboration with HUNT4

Through a special collaboration with HUNT4, a large-scale population-based observational cohort, Bio-Me has access to fecal samples from 13,300 individuals and their anonymised medical registries with more than 6,000 different health parameters. This enables microbiome discovery of novel biomarkers and drug targets.
